House gardens have always been typically associated with Slovenian traditional architecture. A cherry tree grew in every garden, and we remember how fun it was to steal cherries from a neighbor’s garden. Meadow orchards with tall trees. Avenues of pears and plums behind the corners of the houses, and walnut trees for shade by the barns. A fragrant elderberry at the welcoming entrance and a long-lived boxwood somewhere close at hand.
“We want to raise awareness of the importance of healthy and naturally resistant fruit trees.”
Let’s not forget how good it feels when you pluck a ripe fruit from a bent branch. A fruit warmed by the summer sun and colored by the fertile autumn. The limited collection was wonderful – with motifs of apples, pears and bees and bumblebees flying among them. Indispensable.
